A short drive past Turrialba lies Guayabo National Monument, which preserves Costa Rica’s most important archaeological site. The interesting complex of stone aqueducts, cobbled roads, mounds, retaining walls, and petroglyphs is interpreted through a small exhibit area and volunteer guides who accept tips. A national park entrance fee applies and guests are responsible for their transportation costs.
